One of the greatest measures of healthy aging is independence: the ability to move freely, live safely, and enjoy life without relying on others for everyday activities. Physical therapy is uniquely positioned to help older adults achieve that goal.
Regular PT reduces the risk of falls, strengthens mobility, and helps seniors manage chronic pain. In fact, patients who engage in ongoing physical therapy are 40% more likely to maintain their independence later in life. That means fewer hospitalizations, reduced need for long-term care, and greater confidence for patients and families alike.
At Confluent Health, we’re also committed to advancing policy solutions that expand access to PT for seniors. That’s why we support the SAFE Act (H.R. 7618), legislation designed to screen for fall risks and connect Medicare beneficiaries with preventive PT services. Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults, but with PT-led prevention, we can change that trajectory.
We’re proud to join the American Physical Therapy Association’s Quality Initiative (APTQI) in advocating for this legislation. Together, we are working to ensure more seniors receive the preventive care they need to stay independent and healthy for life.
This National PT Month, we honor the vital role physical therapists play in helping people age with strength, dignity, and independence. Because when patients stay stronger for life, everyone benefits.
