Dr. Devin Trachman Discusses Mommy Wrist with The Bump

Devin Trachman, PT, DPT, MTC, Clinic Director at Physical Therapy Central’s Edmond West Clinic, makes key contributions to the understanding and treatment of “Mommy Wrist” (de Quervain’s tenosynovitis), a common tendonitis issue for caregivers. In the article, she shares practical wrist exercises aimed at reducing pain and improving function. These include wrist flexor stretches, wrist circles, and Finkelstein’s test stretches—all designed to alleviate the discomfort caused by repetitive motions like lifting and carrying a baby.

To build resilience, Dr. Trachman also advises incorporating lightweight dumbbells and specific thumb-strengthening exercises, such as ball squeezes and towel twists. Her approach emphasizes managing pain and addressing the root causes through posture corrections and gradual muscle strengthening. By focusing on exercises that are accessible and effective, Dr. Trachman helps new parents regain functionality and reduce the strain associated with caregiving activities.
