Capitol Physical Therapy’s Dr. Julie Lombardo talks about the Breast Cancer Oncology PT Treatment program

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Physical Therapy Month, there’s no better time to discuss how physical therapy can help cancer survivors. Capitol Physical Therapy (CPT), a Member of the Confluent Health Family, offers a unique cancer rehab program for breast cancer patients. This program, led by Dr. Julie Lombardo, PT, DPT, OCS, WCS, CEO of Capitol Physical Therapy, stands out due to its personalized approach and the expertise of Dr. Lombardo, a nine-year breast cancer survivor who experienced the lack of physical therapy rehab that existed for cancer patients.

“What I was doing was treating myself as a physical therapist. And one of the things I noticed was nobody was talking about [including physical therapy] during my care,” explained Dr. Lombardo. So, Dr. Lombardo created a specialized cancer rehab program for breast cancer patients at Capitol Physical Therapy. Under Dr. Lombardo’s guidance, CPT’s trained physical therapists work with cancer survivors to create a personalized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. This individualized approach ensures they receive the care and attention they deserve, helping them improve mobility, combat fatigue, reduce pain, and maintain strength and function. Her experience and knowledge have been instrumental in creating a program that has helped her and many others get back to the things they loved after becoming cancer-free.
