77 Confluent Health Physical Therapists Achieve Specialist Board Certifications
The Certifications Combine Education and Experience to Positively Impact the Lives of Patients Across all Confluent Health Partner Companies
Louisville, KY – (August 1, 2023) – 77 physical therapists from Confluent Health’s partner companies have added three additional letters to their long list of decorated qualifications, solidifying their positions as top-tier professionals in the field of physical therapy.
The board certifications, granted by the esteemed American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), require a minimum of 2,000 hours of clinical practice and to undergo a rigorous application and examination process. With over 40% of Confluent Health’s physical therapists board-certified, the company continues to maintain the highest number of board-certified specialists among all healthcare organizations in the United States.
Of all physical therapists nationwide, only 11% hold a board certification in a specialty. Among them, a mere 7% possess the prestigious Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) designation, while fewer than 1% have earned the coveted Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) Certification.
Obtaining these specialized certifications better equips physical therapists with further clinical knowledge as well as a refined skill set within their chosen area of expertise. As a result, board-certified therapists can provide the best care and innovative treatment to their patients, remaining at the forefront of the latest, and proven, research and technological advancements. Numerous studies have demonstrated that patients treated by board-certified physical therapists experience faster and more effective outcomes within their specialized fields.

The OCS certification denotes therapists as orthopedic clinical specialists, highlighting their exceptional training, evidence-based practices and expertise in orthopedic injury examination, treatment and medical interventions. The SCS certification, on the other hand, emphasizes acute and critical sports injury treatment, as well as sports injury prevention and wellness. Both certifications require additional training beyond the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degrees earned by these accomplished individuals.
